Review: AWESOME little indie movie. It’s just one of those movies that leaves you with an overall sense of closure. It’s a great, topical storyline (set in Minnesota, no less), with characters and situations that are very easy to get into and identify with. There are some moments where it gets a little weird, but it’s part of what makes the story so good. Michael Cera showed a little more of a serious role in this one compared to his earlier film from this year, Superbad, but he did just as well. I’ve never heard of Ellen Page before this movie (though I had heard that Hard Candy (2005) was pretty intense), but she is a great actress. She had the perfect, odd-and-intelligent-yet-witty sound for the part that made almost everything she said quite comical (except for the serious parts, of course). I would say that this is, at the very least in the top 3 movies I’ve seen in 2007. I’m just starting to get into these types of films, and if they all turn out like this one, I’m glad I started.
